As our schools become increasingly diverse, it is imperative that all teachers are equipped to meet the needs of every learner. In my book, Embrace, Empower, Educate, and Include, I focus on helping teachers understand the importance of knowing who is in front of them in the classroom and guiding them in obtaining the necessary tools to help them achieve. This virtual book study provides an in-depth focus on equity and culturally responsive practices so we can reach the educational goals we have set before ourselves and our students.
This guide includes a combination of various activities and reflections surrounding culturally responsive and equity-based teaching. Each activity seeks to increase teachers’ knowledge and skills in such practices.
It also seeks to help identify targeted areas for growth, aid in goal setting, planning for implementation, and provide ideas to create action-based school improvement initiatives that create equitable, academically, and socially successful environments for every learner.
